Ride and Stride
More than 30 Counties throughout England ( and more recently Wales ) are involved in the sponsored Ride and Stride. This takes place on the second Saturday of September between 10am and 6pm. This year the date is 9th September 2017. Cycle, walk, run, ride or drive to raise money for the region's historic churches and chapels of all denominations. Participants seek sponsorship to visit as many churches on the yearly list as they wish. They plan their own route and set their own speed.
Enthusiastic Volunteers sought
Hampshire & the Islands Historic Churches Trust is looking for 4 enthusiastic volunteers to cover ALRESFORD, NEW FOREST, and EASTLEIGH/SOUTHAMPTON areas where we urgently need help to coordinate Ride and Stride, the key annual fund-raising in aid of Hampshire's historic churches on the 2nd Saturday each September. The role is not hugely onerous or time-consuming. The ideal candidate will be computer literate, have a car, enjoy meeting people and be enthusiastic about the work of Hampshire and the Islands Historic Churches Trust. The Trust raises funds for the repair and upkeep of the region's historic church buildings and graveyards; it is non-denominational and there's no requirement for the volunteer to be a churchgoer! A love of old church buildings and a few hours a month to spare are the key requirements.

About Ride and Stride
In 2016 nearly 400 churches in the HIHCT region opened their doors for Ride and Stride. Although the day was greatly affected by rain the event has raised £43,000 so far, excluding Gift Aid.
The Hampshire County Coordinator has a team of Area Coordinators who in turn liaise with Churches Representatives in their ‘patch’. For convenience, the areas correspond to the Hampshire Anglican Deaneries.

What is the purpose?
Ride and Stride involves people of all ages who spend an enjoyable time raising money for repairs and restoration to the churches and chapels of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Half the money you raise goes to the church of your choice. We are grateful to the many people who Gift Aid their sponsorship, which greatly increases the total raised; the tax recovered is retained by the Trust to add to its funds for future grants and loans.
This event is a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to discover the rich heritage of our historic church buildings.
